Eyelid Rejuvenation

It's one of life's little ironies- those who laugh and smile the most are sometimes the first to develop wrinkles and bags around the eyes.

Ask anyone what is the first thing you notice when you meet someone? Chances are they will say the eyes. In fact, more than 70% of adult Americans consider their eyes to be their favorite facial feature.

Young eyelid skin is smooth, but overtime, the eyelid skin stretches and the muscles weaken. The eyebrows may also droop and sag. Age, heredity, and sun exposure all contribute to this process.

The area around the eyes is one of the most expressive parts of the face and one of the first places to show signs of aging. Wrinkled folds of upper eyelid skin and bags under the eyes can make a person look older and tired. When severe enough, the upper eyelid skin may hang over the lashes and obstruct peripheral vision.

Jonathan C. Lowry, M.D. is pleased to offer blepharoplasty surgery to improve the appearance of the eyelids. The goal of blepharoplasty is to give the eyes a more youthful look by removing excess skin, bulging fat, and lax muscles from the upper and lower eyelids.

Excessive skin around the eyes may be treated with the CO2 laser. The remarkable technology of the CO2 laser removes excess tissue with less bleeding, swelling, and bruising than traditional methods of eyelid surgery. Laser skin resurfacing can be performed at the same time, if desired, to enhance the effect.

Discomfort is generally mild. Non-aspirin pain relievers are usually all that is necessary post-operatively. Aspirin products, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and other blood thinners should be avoided before and after surgery.
