Dr. Akers graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. He earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. Following medical school, Dr. Akers completed an internship in internal medicine at Greenville Memorial Hospital, followed by ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Akers received certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1996 and has been in private practice since 1996. Dr. Akers joined Morganton Eye Physicians in May of 2017 and regularly performs eye surgeries and laser procedures.
